Herma’s News – Valentine’s Day and Super Bowl Sunday – Preparing for two very different occasions.

Carry your heart through this world like a life-giving sun. – Rumi

Dear Customers,

February has arrived and with it we have two interesting but very different reasons to have fun.

On the one hand we have Valentine’s Day on February 14th to be enjoyed with a significant other in some intimate, romantic way or maybe as a girl’s night watching romantic movies and partying. Either way you celebrate it, you will probably want to indulge yourself with decadent foods like a voluptuous, buttery brie and silky, smooth chocolates.

On the other hand, we have Super Bowl Sunday on February 12th which calls for a fun, rowdy party even if it’s just you and your family. In this case, casual, comfort foods are in order. Let’s address both circumstances, but first take a look at gift ideas you might want to share with a friend or loved one to show you care on Valentine’s Day.

Baked Brie 101

1.Place wheel of room-temperature brie in your cheese baker or oven-proof pot. Make very shallow slits across the top of the brie, just through the rind layer in a criss-cross pattern.

2.Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Place what you would like to add to your baked brie on top and around. Bake for 10 – 25 minutes, until very soft. Keep an eye while baking until its melted and warm.

3.Dip toasted baguette or crackers into melted cheese.

Our pink Heart-Shaped Wensleydale Cheese is blended with strawberry and a hint of Prosecco, making this a lovely dessert cheese for Valentine’s Day.

Caramelized Onion Cheddar

This aged cheddar is both creamy and sharp with actual bits of caramelized onion found within. Lovely on its own enjoyed with crackers, this yummy cheese would also work nicely into recipes involving hamburgers, potatoes and veggies. Enjoy the savings!

About Pacific Wildfire Cheese

This Verdelait cheese, which has a hint of cheddar, raclette and gouda, is combined with habanero peppers and a touch of black pepper. It has great melting capabilities which lends itself well to topping hamburgers and for creating queso to use in Mexican dishes.

Nacho Topping Suggestions

Saltspring Kitchen Co. Candied Jalapenos + Saltspring Kitchen Co. Pineapple, Turmeric, Achiote Hot Sauce = Perfect Combination

The sweetness of the pineapple mixed with the candied jalapenos along with the heat of turmeric and achiote make the perfect combination.

Less spicy option…

For something less spicy choose from one of our tangy barbecue sauces and drizzle over pulled pork or shredded chicken, finely chopped onions and cheese-covered nachos.
