The Cheese Shop

Entertaining while Social Distancing

We are constantly looking for ways to serve you better, especially as we adjust ourselves to the NEW normal of staying safe during uncertain times. While entertaining, try serving individual couples rather than lots of guests from one large spread or platter.

Serving each couple their very own special plate of cheese, fruit, preserves and charcuterie at a party makes for a unique, special occasion. If you would like yours prepared by us call 905-885-9250 atleast 24 hours in advance.

We also carry individual, wooden boards handcrafted by Herma’s husband, Harry.

Thanksgiving Meal Essentials inspired by the Village Grocer

The Village Grocer turkeys are chosen from a free-range farm where turkeys are fed on grain and corn with no forced feeding. The birds are also put through a much gentler de-feathering process which preserves flavour.

But let’s face it, the turkey and the mashed potatoes are only a vessel for the gravy. Place your pot of the Village Grocer’s gravy on the stove-top, add some drippings from your bird and proceed to drown your plate with it.

The Village Grocer’s Sage & Onion Stuffing is made from loaves of Italian crusty bread – very old school and so  delicious.

Their brandied cranberry sauce is also a must for Thanksgiving. The Village Grocer cooks down the cranberries and adds orange zest until the right consistancy is reached. A splash of brandy is added too.

Other items from the Village Grocer you should include with your Thanksgiving meal are scalloped potatoes, sweet potatoe puff, mashed potatoes and turnip puff. The Village Grocer takes the tedious labour out of serving this comfort food. Being able to pop these sides in the oven while your bird is roasting will be a real time-saver on a day when so much else is happening in the kitchen.

We hope you will think of us while making plans for your Thanksgiving meal and we look forward to seeing you in the near future. Have a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,

Meredith Ender
