Taco’s Tip – A Paper Towel Shortage Solution

During what sometimes seems like a paper towel shortage, we recommend using Ecologie’s Swedish Sponge Cloths.

1 Sponge Cloth = 40 Paper Towel Rolls + 5 sponges. They are machine washable and may be thrown in the compost after 6 + months.

We love the many advantages of baking bread at home. The warm, soft, flakiness of artisan bread when it is first taken out of the oven and the heavenly aromas created as the smell of fresh-baked bread wafts throughout the home are some of our favourite reasons. Knowing exactly what goes into your bread is also reassuring. At Herma’s, we highly recommend Emile Henry’s Bread Cloche and the Large Bread Loaf Baker.

The Bread Cloche

The curve of its lid exactly recreates the dome of traditional bread ovens, giving the bread the correct humidity level it requires as it bakes. The result? a generous crust and a firm, airy inside.

Bread baking tip: Scoring the bread not only makes it look attractive but also helps release carbon dioxide, humidity and controls the direction in which the bread will expand during the oven spring.

Cheese & Charcuterie Platters – Fall Season Entertaining

The air is crisp and the days are getting shorter, and yet we feel Autumn is still an exciting season in which to entertain. Enjoy all the beautiful colours and unique flavours that Autumn has to offer.

Ideas for creating an Autumn-themed Cheese and Charcuterie Platter…

Work with a warm palette of yellow, red, orange and brown. – Add thin apple slices, pear slices, figs, dried fruit and nuts to your platter. – Our NEW gourmet popcorn with flavours like Pecan Pie, Pumpkin Spice and Caramel Apple would be a fun, playful addition to your platter. – Place a mini pumpkin on your board as a special decoration. – As an alternative to wine, consider pairing your cheese and charcuterie with hot apple cider. – For a unique charcuterie choice try our NEW BonBons Coshons, mini, bite-sized pork treats that come in a variety of flavours. – Try adding preserves or honey, like Artisan Edible’s Apple Fig Ginger Chutney or Borgo de Medici Cucina’s Pistachios in Acacia Honey. – We strongly suggest Herma’s Signature Product Favourites…Bacon Cheddar Spread, Chicken Liver Pate and Herma’s Chevre. – Applewood Cheddar and/or Red Fox are both musts on an autumn cheese board.
