Baratti and Milano – Navigating our large selection!

We love carrying Baratti & Milano this time of year as they make wonderful gifts and are very special, sophisticated treats to provide guests while entertaining.

We carry such a large selection, however, that if you are new to Baratti & Milano, you may feel overwhelmed by the many choices available. Within this blog we have included information about some of our favourite Italian treats.

Gianduiotti Sopraffini

The beautiful vintage photo seen on this box of chocolates is of Queen’s Square of Savoy in the beautiful city of Torino. Legend has it that Baratti & Milano perfected and invented the famous Gianduiotti as a result becoming the royal chocolate makers to the House of Savoy.

Gianduitto is one of the most famous types of chocolates in all of Italy. Creamy and smooth, it is a perfect balance of milk chocolate and hazelnut that melts in your mouth and leaves a persistent finish well after it’s gone.

These chocolates contain a delectable mix of Baratti’s famous milk chocolate made from a proprietary blend of cacao beans from Ecuador and Ghana and Europe’s best milk from Normandy France.

Soffici Amaretti

Baratti & Milano’s Soft Amaretti cookies are a confection typical of the Piedmont region. Individually and elegantly wrapped in pretty pastel papers they make a beautiful addition to the dessert table. Baratti and Milano’s signature Amaretti cookies are unmistakable with their pronounced almond aroma – soft and fragrant with every bite.

These beautifully wrapped cookies come in both a tin and also in a beautiful box as seen in the picture.

Specialita di Pasticceria

Within this beautiful green box find three types of amazing cookies popular throughout northern Italy – Soffici Amaretti Bulk Cookies, Paticceria Paste de Meligs and Paste de Meliga.

Soffici “Soft” Amaretti Bulk Cookies – Best served at room temperature or slightly warmed.
These soft delicious amaretto cookies can be paired with a chilled grappa after dinner, an afternoon tea or crumble them up and serve over your favorite ice cream for a delightful and unique treat!

Pasticceria Paste de Meligs are small Italian cookies that border on being fine pastries. These small bite sized cookies are sprinkled with the finest powdered sugar, ready to eat, or can be dressed up with what you have from the market – a fruity jam, nut spread or whipped cream and berries.

Paste di Meliga are crunchy, golden biscuits, typical of the Cuneo valleys and other areas of Monregalese, Pamparato and Vicoforte. The ancient recipe, with very finely ground corn flour, is like that of a crumbly biscuit. Meliga cookies  are often enjoyed alone with Zabajone or with Passito wine, Moscato or Dolcetto. Legend has it that Cavour,  a leading figure in the movement towards Italian unification in the 1800’s,  would finish his meal with two Meliga cookies and a drop of Barolo Chinato.

Assorted Chocolates

These lovely boxes are handmade in Turin by a small family company and adorned with a simple bow in Baratti & Milano’s signature deep blue.  Inside you’ll find a selection of some of Baratti & Milano’s most loved classics, including five varieties of cremino, a taste of our Nocciolato, both the classic and dark gianduiotti, and solid 70% dark chocolates.

Cremino Classico
The classic cremino is a classic for a reason. It’s a perfectly balanced bite of chocolate.

Extra Dark Cremino
The layers are extra subtle in the extra dark cremino. You can taste the darkness of the chocolate without the extra bitter flavor found in other dark chocolates. Turn to the dark side with this chocolate.

At the origin of the Baratti & Milano production, this fantastic three-layer praline since then called Cremino, is recognized and appreciated for its delicacy and creaminess; harmoniously combines pure Gianduia chocolate with the velvety and sweet “Tonda Gentile” hazelnut cream.
