Ordering Holiday Foods – Turkeys, Capons, Ham and more

Holiday Food Orders for Christmas Dinner
How much to order…
A medium to large Turkey, 18-20 lb., feeds one person per pound of meat.
A turkey less than 16 lb., however, does not give the same yield and must be calculated as 1 person per 1 ½ lb. of weight.
Turkeys ($4.99 per pound) : small = 14+ pounds, medium = 18+ pounds, large = 20+ pounds
Capons: small = 7+ pounds, medium = 9+ pounds, large = 10+ pounds
Why order from us?
The Village Grocer’s Fresh, Free-Range Turkeys are fed on a mix of grains (naturally, not force-fed), allowed to run free and will be gently defeathered when the time comes, all making for a delicious, juicy bird to serve at Christmas.
Gravy, Cranberry Sauce and Stuffing are all made using family recipes passed down through generations.
The award-winning Maple Sugar Hams are boneless and slow roasted with maple and brown sugar until they are fully cooked.
And in case you didn’t know...
*A capon is a rooster that has been castrated before reaching maturity and fed a special diet of milk or porridge. This creates a bird that is bigger than a chicken, smaller than a turkey with a meat that is more tender and less gamy than either a turkey or a regular chicken. Actually, hard to find!
*A Tourtière is a French-Canadian meat pie dish originating from the province of Quebec which can be traced back to the 1600’s when Québécois settlers would eat a feast after attending midnight mass on Christmas Eve. A buttery pastry shell is filled with spiced meats and vegetables and then baked until the crust is golden and flaky. A food that is a part of Canadian heritage special this time of year.
