Herma’s News – Getting Ready for Thanksgiving, Cozy Food for Fall and

May the stars carry your sadness away, May the flowers fill your heart with beauty, May hope forever wipe away your tears, And, above all, may silence make you strong. – Geswanouth Slahoot (Chief Dan George)

Dear Customers,

There are few meals each year that call for us to put our best food forward. A meal that hearkens us back to days when hours of preparation and special care would be put into special sit-down dinners.

Meals such as these, with loved ones sitting around the table, are what memories are made of – the best kind of memories! At Herma’s we look forward to being of assistance as you plan this extra-special meal.

The Village Grocer Turkeys – The best you can buy!

Evan from the Village Grocer says he has the best turkeys you can buy and we have to agree. Evan gets his amazing turkeys from a small family operation in Alma, Ontario. Five years ago, when he found the family that provides him his turkeys, he insisted that the turkeys be treated a specific way.

1. The turkeys must be fed a specific mix of grains for their entire life to ensure hens become plump,  naturally, without force feeding.
2.  The turkeys must be free-range.

3. The turkeys must be gently defeathered, which may leave the odd feather on the bird, but will certainly  ensure flavor.

Mrs. Bridges

Preserves, Marmalades and Chutneys

This beautiful line of products is inspired by Mrs. Bridges, or Kate, to those who knew her, a head cook to one of the leading Edwardian families, and London socialites, Lady and Richard Bellamy.

In 1905 Mrs. Bridges created her own cook book and in the 1970’s she was immortalized in the series, Upstairs Downstairs.

Mrs. Bridge’s chutneys, marmalades and preserves that we know today are inspired by those Mrs. Bridges would create downstairs on the Bellamy estate. We hope you might enjoy the quality, luxury and indulgence of Mrs. Bridges at Herma’s.

Quebec Cheeses are making a name for themselves as being some of the best in the world. We believe these cheeses from Quebec would make the perfect ensemble for your Thanksgiving cheese platter.

Migneron of Charlevoix is an award-winning semi-firm, cow’s milk cheese that tastes of hazelnut and cream with just the right amount of salt.

Le Ciel de Charlevoix is a creamy, even almost buttery, award-winning semi-firm cheese. It is a somewhat sharp blue cheese featuring aromas of mushroom and cream that has a creamy texture. Pair with a nice port.

Raclette de Compton with Pepper

photo by La Station de Compton

This beautiful raclette with peppercorn is made using only certified organic milk from the family’s herd of Holstein Cows. The aroma of apples and butter is enhanced by peppercorns when heated. It is a delicious melting cheese with flavors of butter and hazelnut.

Camembert from Quebec has recently earned the distinction as being the best in its class. A similar cheese to brie, Camembert is formed into smaller wheels and may have a slightly more robust flavor than its larger cousin.
