The Smoke Show

Here is how Dave and Nick Rose’s adventure with Smoke Show began…

Once upon a time in Quebec, a young man named Dave Rose decided he would produce a hot sauce of his own. Picking up the jalapenos he needed, he headed to his parents’ house. Meanwhile, his brother Nick waited for him there with ribs in a smoker.

Under a haze of smoke and sun, Smoke Show would be born in a moment of fraternal telepathy when the Rose Bros put their peppers in the smoker before blending them into a sauce.

The unique flavour of  jalapenos, maple syrup, and smoke created enough local buzz and sales for Dave to leave his busboy job and expand the Smoke Show line-up with a spicy mayo, a barbecue sauce, and a spice rub, which have gone on to the same level of success as their flagship hot sauce. Now their Jalapeno Hot Sauce has quickly become  a staple condiment found all over Montreal.

At Herma’s we carry the Smoke Show’s…

Food Ideas for St. Patrick’s Day!

St Patricks's Day hat with clover

St. Patrick’s Day is Wednesday, March 17th. To celebrate the Emerald Isle, you may want to enjoy a traditional Irish meal. Below are a few traditional Irish foods that may be enjoyed with a nice glass of Guinness.

Irish Stew

Transform the Village Grocer’s Beef, Beer & Onions into an Irish Stew for St. Patrick’s Day by adding carrots and potatoes (boiled, sliced and quartered).

Bangers & Mash

Place the Village Grocer Mashed Potatoes on a plate with two Village Grocer Sausages on top. Pour a mixture of gravy and broth over the food and you have a delicious Bangers & Mash.

Tip: Herma likes to add olive oil to her mashed potatoes for smooth consistency.

Straight from the shores of Ireland…

Cashel Blue – due to arrive this Friday!

The perfect addition to your St. Patrick’s Day Celebration on Wednesday.

Cashel Blue comes not only from a place rich in farmland, but also with history. Cashel Blue is named after Ireland’s local historic site, The Rock of Cashel, which dates back almost a thousand years. Legend has it that it was at this site that Ireland’s patron saint, St. Patrick, began the conversion of the Irish to Christianity.

The perfect addition to your St. Patrick’s Day Celebration on Wednesday.

We also think Herma’s Signature Beer Cheddar Spread would be nice enjoyed with some crackers and a nice pint of Guinness.
