Herma’s News – Gift Ideas, Nambe Serving ware, Cheese and Perfect Cheese Pairings
Blessed is the season which engages the whole world in a conspiracy of love. –
Dear Customers,
Herma has acquired such an abundance of Italian chocolates and Panettone, along with other traditional holiday treats from Germany, Holland, England and Scotland, that one might think Herma’s is a chocolate shop and bakery.
It certainly is the perfect place to find authentic holiday foods from Europe. And of course we believe these beautifully packaged treats make the perfect Christmas gifts.
Another beautiful gift would be from our NEW line of Nambe Serving ware.
Nambe’s Serving ware
As much a striking showpiece on your table as it is a functional piece of serving ware, this line is Herma’s favourite gift suggestion for 2019.
Nambe’s Alloy
Nambe Alloy serving ware is oven-safe – up to 500 degrees F. You may also keep food chilled by leaving your Nambe Alloy piece in the freezer for up to half an hour. Its eight-metal alloy also holds both heat and cold for long periods.
Nambe’s Fine Wood
Also find other contemporary Nambe pieces at Herma’s made of Acacia wood, which is sourced from a plantation in Thailand. This beautiful rich wood resists moisture, making these pieces a strong and durable choice for sophisticated presentations.

Delicious Pairings with Cheese – Fig Balls, Chutneys and Honey
Italian Fig Balls
Seggiano’s Italian Fig Balls are aromatic balls of compacted dried fruit imported from Calabria, in southern Italy. In order to create these delicacies, well-matured figs are picked from trees. They are then dried and slowly cooked in their own juices. After that, they are shaped into balls, wrapped in green fig leaves and slow baked – beautifully preserving the juices that make this the perfect pairing for cheese this holiday season.
Cathy suggests enjoying these beautiful delicacies with ricotta and pecorino cheese.
Cartwright and Butler Chutneys
Perfect for entertaining and gifting!
We carry four types that are perfect for pairing with cheese.
Tomato & Apple Chutney (adds a hint of chilli with cheese and cold meats)
Caramelized Onion Chutney (perfect with warmed goat’s cheese or heaped on top of mozzarella appetizer)
Sweet Apple Chutney (lovely with cheddars and Wensleydale, adding sweetness to balance the sharpness. Also nice with pork sausages.)
Real Ale Chutney (star ingredient for any ploughman’s lunch)
Pairing Honey with Cheese
A drizzle of sweet honey is the perfect contrast to the saltiness of cheese.
Use sparingly as honey is meant to elevate the flavor of cheese, not smother it. Try drizzling over blue cheese, brie, hard cheeses, and also with ricotta and fruit as a dessert. A little prosciutto on the side is also a welcome delight on these occasions.
Cathy suggests…
Sparrow Lake Wildflower Honey (Unpasteurized from Kilworthy, Ontario) and HurtBerry Farm’s Nectar of the Gods (a Chili Infused Honey that brings a medium level of sweet heat and complex floral notes, unpasteurized from Port Perry, Ontario)
We hope you will visit us soon as you prepare to entertain for the holidays! Have a wonderful weekend.
Sincerely,
Meredith Ender
