George Clooney’s Favourite Foods
According to Taste of Home, George Clooney, who lives with wife Amal in beautiful Lake Como, Italy, loves these three foods…Gnocchi with Pesto Sauce, Margherita Pizza with an Arugula Salad and Cacio e Pepe. All can be made quickly with quality ingredients, most of which may be found at Herma’s.
- Gnocchi are little pillows of potato and flour, which are lightly poached to be served in a sauce. In Italy, you would usually have a small portion as a starter, but there’s no reason that it can’t be a main course. We carry Gnocchi from Rummo and fresh Parmigiana which always makes a nice finish to your dish. Consider tossing Gnocchi (already fried or boiled) with pesto or truffle oil.
- A margherita pizza is a pizza with fresh hand-crushed tomatoes in place of a traditional pizza sauce, pieces of fresh mozzarella and basil leaves. We carry a wood-fired margherita pizza from Revolver which may found in our freezers. Can be ready in minutes. Get before its gone.
- Clooney also likes to enjoy an Arugula Salad with his pizza. Place arugula in a large bowl, drizzle with a tablespoon or more of olive oil and use hands to toss lightly. Add a teaspoon of lemon juice and a smidgen of salt to taste. Once tossed and you get the desired balance of flavours, add 2 ounces of shaved fresh parmigiana (that’s equivalent to two slices of American cheese).
- Cacio e Pepe is made with very few ingredients. Melt a large dallop of butter and add a crack of pepper to that. Add a cup of reserved pasta water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and add cooked pasta (200 grams) with 600 grams of grated parmigiana or pecorino (do not add all at once). Stir and shake skillet allowing cheese to melt and cling to pasta. When serving, to finish, add a little more Parmigiana or Pecorino and another crack of pepper.
