Balsamic Fig Jam Recipe & French Toast Sausage Rollups

Balsamic Fig Sauce Recipe

Heat a teaspoon or two of oil in a pan on the stove at medium-low heat. Add a clove or two of garlic; cook, stirring, until fragrant maybe for 1/2 a minute. Add fig jam, chicken stock, 2 1/2 teaspoons of balsamic vinegar, and ¼ cup water (double the vinegar and water for 4 servings). Bring to a simmer. Cook until slightly thickened for maybe 3-4 minutes. Add salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat and stir in 1 TBSP of butter (double that for 4) until melted. Lovely drizzled over pork chops as well as garlic mashed potatoes.

Breakfast Sausage rolled in French Toast

In a skillet over medium heat, cook the Village Grocer breakfast sausage. Trim the crusts off each slice of sandwich bread and flatten with a rolling pin to make it more malleable. In a shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cinnamon, and vanilla extract like you would for French toast batter. Place a sausage link at the edge of a flattened bread slice, roll it tightly around the sausage. Heat a skillet over medium heat with a little butter. Dip each roll-up in the egg mixture and place seam-side down in the skillet. Fry until golden brown on all sides for around 2–3 minutes per side. You can also place in oven if you prefer.
