Herma’s News – Long, Hot Summer Food Suggestions, Flameless Candles and Savings

Once we believe in ourselves, we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight or any experience that reveals the human spirit.  – e. e. cummings

Dear Customers,

Just a few more weeks of summer entertaining left before autumn breezes into our lives. There are a number of ways to entertain with beautiful foods as you celebrate summer’s hot, lazy days.

We also believe setting the stage is important. Good wine, music and candlelight along with beautiful crystal and table settings all help to make enjoying food outdoors with friends special. At Herma’s we carry beautiful crystal glassware, placemats, napkins, flower arrangements and, of course, the candles.

Set the Stage with Flameless Candles

NEW! LIGHTLI Candles

These wax flameless candles look, feel and dance without the mess or worry of ordinary candles.

They are hand-poured and crafted using 100% refined paraffin wax for a feel, look, and even a subtle scent that adds authenticity. Turn on by touch or with remote and experience the movement of a realistic looking flame.

NEW Rainlite Candles and Remote Control

In addition to the NEW LIGHTLI Candles and the ever popular Reallite Candles we also carry Rainlite Candles meant for use outside with the ability to withstand wind, sun and rain.

Reallite remote-controls may be used with Reallite and Rainlite candles. Find at Herma’s.

Long, Hot Summer Food Suggestions

Prosciutto-wrapped Peaches and Burrata

Fresh peaches are all the rage this time of year and the perfect time to enjoy. Grilled peaches wrapped in prosciutto pair beautifully with soft, voluptuous Burrata, which is expected to arrive at Herma’s this weekend. Drizzle with Balsamic Vinegar and add a pinch of fresh basil and flakes of Malden Salt.

Have prosciutto sliced to your liking by Janis, Margaret or Herma.

Loving Lemo-licious this summer!

Lemo-licious’ zesty cream cheese with fresh tang of lemon zest and rosemary is the perfect Signature Product during summer months. Pictured is Lemo-licious adorned with garnish (green onion, red bell pepper slices and lemon peel). We think it pairs best with salmon, but love it just on its own spread on Herma’s Homemade Crostini.

Herma’s Signature Products are made fresh weekly and are available in Herma’s Cheese Shop.

Shrimp and Pineapple make the perfect pairing!

Have fun serving guests an already sliced pineapple pierced with cooked shrimp. Pineapple and shrimp are the perfect summer pairing for a magical evening of fun with guests spent outdoors.

Preparing Shrimp

Heat thawed Tiger Shrimp in a skillet for just 2-3 minutes per side. Herma enjoys cooking shrimp with Dry Glaze Grilling Seasoning (giving shrimp a spicy kick) and a drizzle of Lemon Olive Oil.

The sliced pineapple serves as the perfect pin cushion for shrimp. Shrimp is also nice served alongside our Signature Seafood Dazzler and Homemade Crostini.

Mediterranean Couscous

Delicious, Easy and Refreshing…the perfect salad for summer!

This beautiful Mediterranean Couscous may be found in our freezers and is so easy to prepare. Makes the perfect side on hot, summer days.

Raclette used many ways!

We recommend placing Raclette on top of a delicious twice baked potato as well as pouring it melted over favorites like on top of a grilled hamburger, cauliflower, baby potatoes and sliced baguette.

Twice Baked Potato Recipe

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Bake 4 potatoes in preheated oven for 1 hour. When potatoes are done allow them to cool for 10 minutes. Slice potatoes in half lengthwise and scoop the flesh into a large bowl; save skins. To the potato flesh add 1 cup sour cream, 1/2 cup milk, 4 tbsp butter, pinch of salt & pepper and 2 green onions (chopped fine). Mix with a hand mixer until well blended and creamy. Spoon mixture into the potato skins and cover with Raclette cheese.  Return to oven until cheese has melted.

Striploin from the Village Grocer

Striploin Steak or Flank Steak expertly hand picked by the Village Grocer Chefs at their local abattoirs are divine. These tender, juicy steaks are wonderful served alongside a Caesar Salad or a twice baked potato.

Herma’s Suggestion for Grilling to Perfection…

Make sure the steak is room temperature before grilling. Brush the steak with oil on both sides and season with salt and freshly ground pepper. Let stand for 10 minutes. Heat your grill to high. Place steaks on grill and sear on both sides. Lower temperature to medium and grill approximately 10 minutes turning steaks often to cook evenly. Remove the steaks from the grill and let rest for about 5 minutes before slicing in order to allow juices to settle back into the meat.
