Margaret’s Holiday Cheese Tray Suggestions…

Rutland Red – Red Leicester

Rutland Red is a buttered cloth-bound cheese matured for at least 6 months. Its texture and flavour are unlike any other Red Leicesters found in supermarkets, with notes of Butter and Nuttiness providing a sweet and caramelized flavour throughout.
This is the only pasteurized Red Leicester produced in the county of Leicestershire. Rutland Red is an award-winning cheese winning 3 golds at the Global Cheese Awards and 4 golds and the Tesco Red Leicester Trophy at the International Cheese Awards. Pairs well with Pale Ales, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir.

Brie de Meaux

Brie De Meaux is the most famous of all Bries and in our opinion the very best of all. This gorgeous, buttery and earthy cheese is steeped in French history and has on many occasions been the cheese of royalty. Brie De Meaux is still traditionally artisan-made, just 30 miles east of Paris in the region of Ile-de-France.

Hailed as the “King of Cheese” by European leaders at the Congress of Vienna in 1815, Brie de Meaux has been enjoyed by the likes of Charlemagne in 774, Henry IV of England in 1594 and King Phillip-Auguste who gave this cheese to members of his court as New Year’s gifts in 1217. Pair with Champagne or full-bodied reds.

Bleu D’Auvergne

Bleu d’Auvergne is a beautiful French blue cheese made from raw cow’s milk named after its place of origin in the Auvergne region of south-central France. Its aroma is intense, while its flavours are pastoral, spicy and salty, reminiscent of grass and wildflowers. The cheese matures for at least 2 weeks in which time it develops its moist and crumbly texture. It pairs well with dessert wines that provide a mellow contrast to the Bleu’s intensity.

Charcuterie

Have you taken a look at the coolers that house all our amazing salami lately? If so, you will have found Creel & Gambrel’s amazing Blue Cheese Salami, Five Pepper Salami, Salami Calabrese, Salami Casalingo and Saucisson Cacciatore (hot!). Also in the house is San Gimignano Italian Tuscan Salamis, Soppressata, Chorizo from Spain and Golosini Salami with Truffles.

Finoocchiona Toscana IGP (Fennel Salami)

Finocchiona Toscana IGP is one of the most famous and celebrated cured meats in Tuscany. The designation of IGP means that its production is strictly regulated, using only high-quality pork from Italy.

Its reputation dates back to the Middle Ages as it was enjoyed by the Medici family and also Leonardo Da Vinci. This beautiful salami’s unique Tuscan flavour of spice and fennel comes to fruition during its aging process.

Have yours sliced to perfection in our Cheese Shop.
