NEW at Herma’s…

Delight Ceramic Cookware from Emile Henry

Image may contain: food

We are pleased to introduce Emile Henry’s NEW line of Delight Ceramic Cookware. This ceramic cookware, like all of Emile Henry, is made in the southern region of Burgundy and is very versatile with the ability to be taken directly from freezer to oven. This line can be used in the microwave as there is no metal and also on an induction stovetop.

Because of the highly resistant glaze of Delight, you may use metal utensils without scratching the surface. Delight is also highly reactive to heat which is distributed evenly across the entire surface, allowing you to finely control the temperature.

From this line we carry 3 round thickly glazed, black pots with lids and black tagine pot with large white lid. Tres chic!

Also NEW from Emile Henry is an extra-large casserole dish in glossy red – perfect for lasagnas.

Cheese Department

Our autumn days, while beautiful, are also very chilly, beckoning us NOT outdoors but in. What better way to enjoy cozy dinners at home than with Raclette cheese using a raclette machine. Find an array of raclette machines to suit your individual needs at Herma’s. From a mini on-the-go to party-size raclette serving a party of eight, we at Herma’s have what you need. We also have the cheese to go with it!

What is Raclette?

Raclette is a firm cheese from Switzerland that is the center of a popular winter social event in the Alpine parts of Europe. This salty cheese made of cow’s milk melts beautifully. The word raclette comes from the French word to scrape.

Raclette’s Beginnings

Raclette made up a simple meal that was enjoyed by shepherds working in the fields. They would boil up potatoes, and heat a stone and melt a bit of the raclette cheese on the hot stone. Once melted, the cheese was scraped off and served on top of potatoes. The tradition of Raclette has been taking place for so long that it was even mentioned in medieval writings.

How it is used today…

For modern day use, Raclette machines were created. Here’s how it works…Slices of raclette are placed into small nonstick pans, called coupelles, which are most often placed underneath the broiler of the raclette machine. Meats and vegetables can be grilled on the griddle. When boiled potatoes and heated meat and veggies are placed on your plate, the melted cheese is poured on top.

The site of oozing Raclette poured over these foods is festive and fun, and can be done over and over, a little at a time, while having fun conversation with friends. And, oh, the aroma is amazing! This event can be a festive, cozy night for family and friends, but may also be enjoyed on your own or with a loved one on a regular basis.

Raclette machines we carry are…

Swissmar’s Classic 8-person Party Raclette – Swissmar’s Swivel Party Raclette for 8, BOSKA’s Mini Partyclette To-Go for on-the-go or individual servings and BOSKA’s XL Partyclette as seen in picture.

We are also pleased to offer Raclette St. Niklaus from Switzerland. Be sure to have yours cut how you like at Herma’s Cheese Shop.
