Herma’s Christmas Message…
Dear Customers,
As I am writing this message there are only 12 more days until Christmas. For many of us it is a busy time as we hustle and bustle about preparing for gift giving and parties. It is also a time of reflection – a time to appreciate one’s many blessings and to enjoy memories of Christmases past shared with loved ones and friends.
This Christmas season is especially nostalgic for me as it is the 25th Christmas celebrated at the store. Throughout this year of 2018 we have been commemorating this special landmark year.
We have celebrated by providing special savings in July, offering a gift draw for a basket worth $500 in August, raising $1450 for Cornerstone with Silent Auctions during the month of September, and, last but certainly not least, we have been celebrating our Anniversary throughout our annual Open House.
We hope you have enjoyed the many activities that have taken place during 2018. It has been our pleasure and we would like to thank all who took part.
Gratitude is the heart’s memory. Your kindness, smiles, friendship, and support throughout the years have left an impression on us and it is from the bottom of our hearts that we say thanks. It has been a privilege and an honour to have served you during these years and we look back on this quarter of a century with love and admiration. We also look forward to creating many more memories with you in the years to come.
Thanks also to our staff, both present and past, and our suppliers who have become our good friends. Your support and commitment have meant the world to us.
We wish you peace, happiness and good health this holiday season and throughout the new year.
Have a very Merry Christmas!

Cathy’s Message…
The fun never ends in Herma’s Cheese Department, especially during the holidays.
We are excited to once again present our customers with an annual Stilton extravaganza. Weather permitting, our good friend, Alan Gingham will be here with me, Cathy, in the cheese department this Saturday serving our wonderful Colston Bassett Stilton.
Colston Bassett Stilton
Colston Bassett Dairy has been the home of traditional Stilton and Shropshire Blue cheeses for over 100 years. They continue to produce their cheese in the traditional way, using milk from local farms – all within 1.5 miles of the dairy on the Nottinghamshire/ Leicestershire border.
‘With only four cheesemakers in the last one hundred years, Colston Bassett has maintained a tradition and quality of cheesemaking that is unparalleled in the Stilton world. It is the only Stilton that Neal’s Yard Dairy has carried for the last thirty three years.’ – Jason Hinds of Neal’s Yard Dairy in London
Colston Bassett Stilton awards…
In 2018, for the fourth time in five years, Colston Bassett Stilton is named one of the top three Best British Cheese Brands in the Guild of Fine Food’s prestigious ‘Best Brands’ survey – Received multiple star success with their cheeses at the 2018 Great Taste Awards – Won best PDO/PGI Cheese at the 2018 Royal Bath & West Show in Somerset.
Parmesan Reggiano
We are also featuring our Parmesan Reggiano that was cut from our very own wheel. 36 Month AOC . We got this amazing wheel for a great price, and are happy to pass on the savings to our customers. Come on in and grab yourself a hunk!
Ste-Maure de Touraine
We are excited to offer this raw goat milk cheese that has been produced in the Loire Valley of France for centuries. Its traditional log shape, grey, natural, edible rind and slight acidity make this little beauty a stunner on a cheese plate.
Valencay
Named after a town in central France, Valençay is shaped like a pyramid with a flat top. Originally, the shape was a pointed pyramid to celebrate France’s Egyptian campaign. When the campaign went sour, it is said Napoleon was so enraged by the sight of the little pyramid that he lopped its top off.
Valançay is fantastic when simply spread on a cracker or on bread. It is also a great cooking cheese. Crumble it over a salad, baked potato, or place in an omelette. Pairs well with Chardonnay, Champagne, Sauvignon Blanc or Chablis.
Many beautiful cheeses may be found in our coolers that will be crowd pleasers and conversation pieces on your cheese platter. Let us offer our advice on how you may create your own cheese tray for the holidays.
We would also be thrilled to create a beautiful cheese tray for your next holiday event ourselves. Just call 905-885-9250 or stop by. 24 hours notice is appreciated.
From all of us in the Cheese Department, we wish you all the best this holiday season as you prepare to celebrate Christmas and the New Year.
Cathy
