Herma’s News – Christmas Chocolates, Goat Cheese, Open House Dates and Gift Basket Orders
When all the world appears to be in a tumult, and nature itself is feeling the assault of climate change, the seasons retain their essential rhythm. Yes, fall gives us a premonition of winter, but then, winter, will be forced to relent, once again, to the new beginnings of soft greens, longer light, and the sweet air of spring. – Madeleine M. Kunin
Dear Customers,
Thanks to all who attended our Celebration of Italian Foods event this past Saturday. We couldn’t have been more pleased to recommend and offer food tastings from Jesse Tree’s delicious line of authentic Italian foods. Thanks also to Chef John from Jesse Tree who served up a delicious fettucine from our empty wheel of Grana Padano. It was absolutely delicious.
That being said, we hope you will plan to attend our annual open house which we consider to be even more special.
Mark your calendars for…

Multiple Gift Basket Orders for Christmas
Now is the time to place multiple-gift basket orders for clients, colleagues, neighbors and employees. This unique aspect of the store is one of Herma’s favourites as she has been performing this service for over 35 years – longer than the store’s 27. Gift Baskets are such a wonderful way to show appreciation.
Like little elves, we will be giggling with glee as we prepare your beautiful gift baskets. We love knowing that these packages will bring Christmas joy to others.
Call 905-885-9250 or stop by and ask for Herma or Gordon.
Herma’s Cheese Shop
We are well stocked with all your favourite cheeses and more – Parmigiano Reggiano, assorted bries and blues, cheddars of all kinds, specialty artisan cheeses and so much more. This week we decided to focus on the great selection of goat cheeses we have available.
Entertaining with Goat Cheese

Chavroux Goat Cheese
We love the tangy flavour of goat cheese and its creamy texture, which pairs well with ingredients both sweet and savory. At Herma’s find some lovely goats, both soft and hard.
Fifth Town’s Premium Goat Milk Cheddar (Prince Edward County) – Capra Rosemarino Hard-Ripened Cheese (Northern Italy) – Fifth Town’s Cape Vessey Goat Cheese with Truffle – Germain’s Crottin de Chevre (France) – Pagwa (Kapuskasing, Ontario) – Fifth Town’s Lemon Fetish – Chavroux Fresh & Smooth Goat’s Milk Cheese
Pairing Goat Cheese with other Foods

Pairings for Goat Cheese
Consider enjoying goat cheese with your favourite pear or peach and maybe add some honey. Goat cheese also goes very well with salads involving walnuts and beets, or for a unique twist, mix with a nice red pepper hummus. We also suggest spreading soft goat cheese onto our home baked crostini and topping it off with a tiny bit of caramelized onion. In fact, any of the above jars of preserves, jellies and spreads would make a heavenly combination when added to the fresh, soft tanginess of goat. And let’s not forget how delicious it is added to Mexican dishes – warmed and sprinkled with cumin.
For the above food pairings we suggest…Chavroux Fresh & Smooth Goat’s Milk Cheese as it is already soft and spreadable. Pictured condiments that we suggest are Artisan Edibles Pomegranate Hot Pepper Jelly, Meyer Lemon Chutney with White Wine and Apple Fig Ginger Chutney. We are also very fond of the Garlic Box’s Cranberry Garlic Preserve with Rum.
