Herma’s News – A little kick of flavour and just the right pairing of wine make mealtime a special treat.
If the stars should appear but one night every thousand years how man would marvel and stare. – Ralph Waldo Emerson
Dear Customers,
Sometimes we just need a little kick of flavour or a beautiful pairing of wine to make our meal extra special. Below are a couple of recommendations that will add fun to summer meals.
Vintage Pizza Pie Co. – The Perfect Wine Pairing
photo by the Vintage Pizza Pie Co.
Locally made in Northumberland County by Richard and Isabelle, the vintage Pizza Pie Co.’s pizzas are classic Neapolitan pizzas made the old fashioned way, as they would have been done centuries ago with dough composed of only four ingredients (water, flour, salt and yeast).
Once the dough is created and the toppings are laid the pizzas are cooked in Richard and Isabelle’s wood-fired oven for 60 to 120 seconds creating a final product that is blistered but pliable, chewy yet delicate.
Find their pizzas in Herma’s freezers. All one has to do to enjoy their gourmet pizza is to heat in the oven from frozen for 5 to 8 minutes. Voila! An amazing pizza in minutes.
Pairing Wine with your Pizza
But wait, there’s more…to make your evening special as you enjoy your pizza, why not choose just the right sort of wine or beer to go with it. We have created a list of the pizzas we offer and what we think would make the perfect pairing.

Saucy Dotty brings sweet heat to foods.

Dot Worobetz of Brighton is a good friend of Herma’s and the creator of Saucy Dotty’s Gourmet Sauce. We love the little kick of sweet heat flavour her sauces give to foods like pulled pork, baked beans, corn on the cob, chicken wings, nachos and so much more. We especially love her sauce in the summertime outdoors when barbecued spare ribs are enjoyed best.
Just last week Herma created the tastiest spare ribs using liquid smoke, Smoke Show Seasoning AND Saucy Dotty’s Original Gourmet Sauce. The ribs were amazing with just the right amount of sweet heat for a finger licking good time.
To go with your ribs we suggest also using her sauce with baked beans. Add onions and pieces of smoke house bacon for a real down home treat.
